Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,[a] who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,[b] but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,[c] being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2:5-11 (ESV)

If anyone ever had a taste of power, they would know how difficult it was not to make use it in some way. Politicians, teachers, any community leader has at some point taken it upon themselves to beat the system using their status.

Perhaps that isn’t always the case. However, you can’t say that you haven’t felt “better” than someone at some point in your life because of what you have over someone else.

I think we often times fall into this usual trap of placing our identity in certain things of the world because we feel that’s all we have. This could be school, career, and even small stuff like how much better I am at taking spicy food than others (I am not for the record).

We as sinful humans try to be “better” in all types of ways. Christians are no different in their own unique forms of “holier than thou” type of mentality. Society told him to stay away from the broken, he embraced them. Society told him to look after himself and his comforts, he went without eating for 40 days and skipped meals to share the gospel.

Jesus gave us the most important identity to take part in, himself.

To cultivate this kind of attitude in our lives, we must go back to Jesus each and every time. We must remember the simple fact of life, we came from nothing, we are essentially, nothing, but God gave us life and through His son Jesus, we can finally find our meaning and purpose.

What is Christianity?

What’s so unique about Christianity that gives me such awe when I reflect on it, is that we base on entire life around a man who claimed to be God, yet freely chose to die for our sins rather than try to use His powers before us.

God wants us to choose Him freely. So much so that He had his own way of showing us His power, by becoming “weak” in the eyes of the world.

What kind of God is this? A humble God?
