“Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭18‬:‭15‬-‭17‬ ‭ESV‬‬

After becoming a parent recently, I can slightly see the connection between how God sees His own children.

I often times take a step back and observe my little girl and much she’s grown. Every little new developmental milestone she goes through brings tremendous joy and excitement to everyone around her.

My wife and I would occasionally reflect each night about how we got to this place. How in the world did we deserve such a precious little girl? And of course, the age old question that we constantly ask ourselves, what are we doing?

If you can recall in our Not Like Us post, we went through the pride of the Pharisee and his confidence in himself. The Pharisee believed that through his own personal “holiness” and “righteousness” he will be saved.

What the Pharisee was clearly missing was his humility. Children do not place confidence or rely on themselves for anything. They look to their parents for that love and safety they’re yearning.

To have faith like that of a child means to believe and trust in God in the same manner of a child. To have the humility and innocence like we do for how a child desires that from their parents.

What is Christianity?

Christianity is taking child-like innocence and applying it to our God the Father.

I believe in the same way our family structure is built in how children are loved and grounded by their parents, we are loved and grounded by God, relying on Him for our true sense of love.

The family structure mirrors God’s love in a lot of ways. I don’t believe it was coincidence that God created us in such a way where parents are in awe of the beauty of raising a child. I believe God placed in our hearts, the desire to love unconditionally and give our all to someone because that kind of love emulates a similar love that is given to us by our own Heavenly Father.
